Days 13, 14, & 15: The Home Stretch – From Colorado to Kansas to Kentucky to Georgia
In these three days, we passed from the West to the Midwest through Missouri (border of the Midwest, West, and South, and North) and into the South. We did very little in these days other than pack up, leave, drive for 8-9 hours, and stop three times for gas (getting food/water as needed) and unpack at a campsite. We definitely underestimated the length of the journey, so we were interested in moving fast in the direction of home.
Day 13
On day 13, we woke up in Colorado, and we were raring to go. We packed up and went through Denver and got to see some nice countryside. We passed a wind farm, and man, was it cool.
Eventually the desert gave way to high plains. We were in Kansas.
We stopped in Lawrence, Kansas. This is significant because it is an important setting in my favorite show, Supernatural. I decided on that day that I’d start a re-watch of the 15 season show the day I was in the main characters’ hometown.
Day 14, 15
On day 14, we woke up in Lawrence and hit the road, heading southeast. We went through Missouri, hitting Kansas City and St. Louis. We stopped at an Iron Skillet and had a good meal – I had orange chicken. Sweet tea had returned!
We kept going until we reached Paducah, Kentucky, and stopped at a KOA. My excitement for getting home was building, until…
…
Day 15, I woke up late, at 11am. It was a quick morning, and we ate “breakfast” at 12pm at a Craker Barrel. I had an iced coffee, and we were on our way again.
We had made it to Nashville. I was feeling a sinking feeling, as the closer I got to home, the more I felt dread. I’d be returning to the stress, the mess, and the chaos that is my life. But I decided that it was time to do something about it. So, I’m inspired by this RV life to get more into glamping around the US. Stay tuned for future trips on this blog!
I am not sure what to do with my blog, once I return home. I have very much enjoyed writing it, and I think continuing it with other content would be beneficial. I just need to start getting out there and taking photos of Florida, doing day trips, etc. That would be rad.
We finally made it to Georgia, and we were getting hungry. So, we stopped at Subway, and I have to say, the staff clearly had no intentions of giving us that “warm southern hospitality”. They made it seem like we were inconveniencing them. It was annoying, and I actually spoke up. I don’t know why, but it seems I am coming out of my shell.
We made it to Atlanta, and it was dark out, since I started the day so late… But we enjoyed seeing the city pass through in the night, and I got some great footage. We eventually made it to the Forsythe KOA, and I am typing this now at 1:50 AM EST. We have five hours to drive tomorrow morning, and then we’ll be home! I am so excited! I can’t wait to see my two beautiful doggos when I get home. Oh boy, I’d better hit the hay before I stay up until 4.
See you, Space Cowboy
