Begin: Onward, to Cordele, GA
Today marks the first day of the Yellowstone trip. Well, I feel ready to tackle anything that comes my way! I feel optimistic about how much fun we’ll have. And sitting here writing this, at 11:26 PM of day one, I can say I’m pumped!
And this, my friends, is the beginning of my trip. We woke up at 10am and worked hard to get the rest of the stuff into the camper, and loaded it up. We ate at Southern Pig & Cattle, going through the drive-thru before the camper was hooked up to the truck. This was possible because we had the camper stay at a local campground, the Santos Trail State Park Campground. Then we simply loaded up the truck and went over to the nearby campground and hitched up. We left at around 2:45pm and drove north on I-75 through Gainesville all the way to north Florida.
We stopped at a gas station to fuel up a few times, including one in Jasper, FL, and we pressed onwards. We soon passed the FL-GA state line.
We drove until we reached Cordele, GA, and got out and attempted to set up. Let me tell you, they don’t prepare you for the possibility that everything goes wrong. This hitch wouldn’t release, and my dad must have pulled the lever like 30 times. Only after he backed the truck up slightly while the jacks were down and immediately applied the parking break did it release. There was some strange problem with the level of the ground – the level of the ground was different under the truck vs. under the camper. But whatever the case may be, we got it to work, and then we decided to go eat.
We ate dinner at Los Compadres, a quaint little Mexican restaraunt in the middle of Cordele. Their chips and queso were delightful, and the steak tacos were top-notch.
I got to listen to tons of music while my parents shopped at Wal-Mart for what they needed. I put on Widespread Panic in honor of Georgia, and remarked to myself how much I love this kind of music. The guitarist and bassist particularly are wizard.
We chilled at the camper for a while, and now I’m writing this post. I plan on doing some writing before I hit the sack, and tomorrow, we’re off to Chattanooga, Tennessee!
See you, space cowboy
