Yellowstone '24 Trip
Day 9: Circle of Fire

Day 9: Circle of Fire

Today we woke up to a cool mountain air wafting through our window. I rolled out of bed, having showered just before bed, and got ready. We went down to the lobby and got breakfast sandwhiches and coffee, and we were off…!

The scenery in the Yellowstone National Park is beautiful. It’s making me more interested in geology, forestry, and conservationism. The park was only founded in the mid to late 1800s, so it’s still in it’s infancy. But we had a tour guide in the Circle of Fire tour that was explaining it all in great detail. His dry humor was great too – it was funny to witness a completely humourless crowd, save for the more safe jokes he cracked.

This set of pictures is from day 8, I didn’t get a chance to include it yesterday. Anyways, the drive into the East Gate of the park was stunning. Rocky to the limit. And I got a picture of the most interesting formations. You see, the interesting part of having limited film is that it makes you think twice about taking mundane shots. You must savor each shot, and make it with intention.

I am thrilled to say the tour was a success. I enjoyed myself a lot on it, and Old Faithful was amazing. It erupts once about an hour. The eruption was bigger than expected, and lasted longer than expected.

Old Faithful is a really cool spot. They have an Inn right by it that has a big clock in the foyer. We had a lunch buffet there while we waited for the eruption. It’s really neat, the geyser is so regular with its schedule that they can predict when it will go off to a difference of +- 10 mins. Anyways, we ate a good meal. I had macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, pulled pork sandwich, and a bison sausage. For dessert we had a molten lava cake with ice cream – my absolute favorite. Let me tell you, the meal was really good, it was filling, and we got to see an amazing sight afterwards. And I got the shot of Old Faithful on my instant film camera! It was the perfect outing.

I give Old Faithful 10/10 on the cool scale.

Above this is a picture of me next to the Lower Falls of Yellowstone. Gorgeous view.

Tomorrow we will be having a bit of a variety day. Then, on Monday, we head south to Rock Springs, Wyoming. I’m excited because that’s near the Red Desert. After that, it’s Denver. I’m hoping the local Best Buy has Instax Wide film, because I only have ten shots left, oops. I was a bit too liberal with the pictures, but it’s well worth it because I’ve got a kick-ass photo album that will last a long time. It will be a great conversation starter for when we have guests.

I’m happy I got to see Old Faithful, and am excited for tomorrow!

See you, Space Cowboy
