Yellowstone '24 Trip
Day 8: Enter Yellowstone

Day 8: Enter Yellowstone

I’m lying in bed at Canyon Lodge. In West Yellowstone. Booyah.

Yellowstone is a breathtaking place. My parents and I have been gawking at the mountains all day, driving across Wyoming. I found my happy place. I actually wrote a poem that I wish to share.

Wyoming

by Zoadra J. Zorro

Far be it for me to be the judge of beauty

But when I see the rolling hills of the West

I truly feel jubilee; the land is my muse

When I see the mountains on high

I feel the weight of creation

Perched at the tip of my brain

God’s the architect, and the building

Beauty is a contested throne

Who is to say the Black Hills

Are as excellent as the Ozarks

I know myself, I am my own company

Evidence in sensory reality

Wyoming has my heart

I feel the light of the One here

No lugubrious moods

No existential dread

Just alacrity for my quest

I’m a sojourner on an odyssey

In search of ataraxia

Within and without

True equanimity is all around us

In the trees, in the creek

In the mountains, in the valley

Pure splendid contentment is in us

We have God in us, and we are God

We are made of celestial light

Meditate on your divine nature

Mother Nature will heed your call

My heart is in Wyoming

The Call of the West

I feel like I am a new person. My faith in the beauty of nature has been revitalized. I couldn’t believe how awe inspiring the sights were on Highway 16 as we drove west. When it turned into an arid steppe, I felt invigorated. I am a believer in the grandness of the Earth. Nature is important to my spiritual side, and I feel as if I were listless before, in a state of loss. I took Ocala and it’s natural beauty for granted. No more. I wish to visit all of the parks in my hometown and go around Florida and see the sights… I can’t wait. And of course, maybe one day I’ll return West, perhaps to the deserts of Arizona. But for now, I am lying in bed at the lodge and just reeling over the excitement of the day. I must sleep, but I will say this:

Wyoming has my heart
